Appraisal Report

 

 

 

The following is a checklist for items you should expect a proper appraisal to contain.

checkbox Disclose if the selling price differs from the appraised value if the appraiser is not arms length to vendor (i.e., company selling the piece issues and/or supplies the appraisal)

Description of Piece:

checkbox Description of item (word picture, Style, motif, period)
checkbox Condition of the item and component parts
checkbox Quality of repair work, if any
checkbox Metal composition (gold, silver, platinum)
checkbox Metal colour
checkbox Metal fineness (10K, 14K, 18K, etc.)
checkbox Hallmarks, Trademarks, describe, if visible, state if not visible
checkbox Serial, style, or any other numbers, if available
checkbox Weight of the item, state inclusion or exclusion of the gemstones, and/or movement
checkbox Manufacturing method (cast, die struck, handmade)

Description of the Gemstones:

checkbox Stone is natural, synthetic, imitation, assembled
checkbox Treatments and their stability, if any (i.e., oil, filling, drilling, etc.)
checkbox Stone weights (actual, estimated)
checkbox Stone measurements (actual, estimated)
checkbox Shape and type of cut (e.g., marquise, brilliant cut)
checkbox Clarity
checkbox Colour
checkbox Cut or Make
checkbox Plot or microphotograph (if over 1 carat and requested by client)

Value of the Item:

checkbox Function (assigned use e.g., Insurance)
checkbox Purpose (level of value e.g., replacement value)
checkbox Date of inspection
checkbox Date of report, and effective date if different
checkbox Type of replacement value (new, comparable, reproduction)
