   With any custom work done at Poag’s Jewellers, we have over 50 years of experience to help you with your designs.   There are many different things to think about when getting ready for a honeymoon or vacation and one thing that is often overlooked is how to care for your jewellery.  Here are a few simple tips to make packing for your trip a little bit easier!

 

    When trying to decide which pieces of jewellery to bring with you, consider what pieces that will be appropriate for the activities you will be participating in, for example, you don’t need to be wearing your finest to be scuba diving in the ocean!  For the pieces you will be leaving at home, make sure they are safely stowed away at home in a safe or in a safety deposit box. 
    Choosing to take jewellery with you while traveling is a personal decision and should be made with not only style in mind, but also information about where you will be traveling to and what you will be participating in while you are there.
    If you decide to take higher value pieces or pieces that aren’t easily replaceable, it is a good idea to have easily accessible proper documentation for them - for example, an appraisal or detailed purchase receipts.  This way, in case of loss, damage, or questions at customs, ownership is easier to establish.

 

    When you are packing your jewellery, it is best to keep your items separated, as certain metals and gemstones can cause harm to others.  You can separate them easily with a travel jewellery case, which has separate compartments and sections for specific items, or you can simply separate them using plastic zipper bags or tissue.  When ready to travel, it is best to be wearing your jewellery or having it safely packed in your carry on baggage.

 

    While you are enjoying your vacation, it is best to be wearing and enjoying your jewellery.  If you are unable to wear your items, it is best to store them in supplied in-room safes. It is always advised with rings, especially when traveling to tropical locations, to make sure it is properly sized and to be very careful when participating in water activities - as the rings may become loose in the water and be lost.
