At James O. Poag Jewellers, we specialize in creating unique and one of a kind custom designs. It is a collaborative process and we work closely with you to make sure we incorporate all the characteristics that will make your custom piece distinctive and special.
The steps involved in creating your custom piece of jewellery include:
We begin our consultation by discussing design options for your custom piece of jewellery. We can peruse through our extensive inventory to start creating ideas for the piece, or we can work from images or sketches you bring into the store. Next we would discuss the options available for materials, from platinum or gold to meteorite or palladium. If we are going to incorporate any stones into the design, our gemologists can educate you on the different options available - whether they are Ontario Diamonds or coloured stones we can explain the special merits of each one, and how they will work best in your design.
A render or a wax model will be ready for your viewing about one to two weeks later. This model may be hand carved or may be a computer render created using CAD (computer aided design) technology. The shape and dimensions of this model will be an accurate replica of your finished piece of jewellery. The benefit of this step is that it will give you an appreciation of the overall size and design of the finished piece; the way it looks from every angle and the proportions of its details. This step also gives you the final opportunity to change or adjust your design. It is also at this time we request a deposit.
Once approved the custom piece will then be cast and finished, as well as stones set if needed. Any other special touches will be added at this time as well - like engraving, enamel or hand applied finishes. Once the piece is completed, if needed we can provide an appraisal for insurance purposes.
