Are you ready to tie the knot?
At Poag Jewellers, we’re here to make that process easy, and yes, fun! We believe every individual deserves an engagement ring that’s as unique and special your relationship. How do we do this? It starts by offering some of today’s top designers and award-winning styles from Noam Carver, Maple Leaf Diamonds, Gabriel & Co. and Sholdt Designs. And, if you’re truly going for something exclusively you, custom designing the ring of your dreams might be the perfect option. We literally specialize in custom design. We get it. We understand making such an important decision can sometimes be overwhelming, so we’re here to guide you through that process.
Where does it start?
It starts with getting to know you. We’ll ask some important questions, mostly having to do with your style, likes and dislikes. For example, are you classic, contemporary, modern, traditional, or have a flair for all things vintage? If you tend to like more traditional and classic looks, a solitaire on a simple band may be just perfect for you – and, might we add, never goes out of style! Are you prone to skin allergies? Platinum (which is hypoallergenic) may be the best choice for you! There are endless options. And, you can begin your engagement ring search right here. But, we’d love you to stop in so we can lend a hand!
Engagement Ring Trends.
Engagement rings come in all sizes, shapes, and settings. If you’re looking for a little help, these top engagement ring trends will help you figure out which one is sure to get a “yes”!
Oval Cut Diamonds
This beautiful deviation from the classic round centre stone is quickly gaining traction due to its flattering shape and vintage look and feel, especially when paired with a simple band.
Not a classic type? Pear-shaped diamonds in mixed metals scream modern and fashion-forward, especially when paired with rose gold or set with pavé diamonds around the centre diamond. Very popular in the 1970s, this fancy-shape diamond is making a big comeback! We particularly love this style.
Stack It Up
When one just won’t do, ring stacks are a major hit. Look for wedding bands to complement nicely with “tiara” style bands that form half-halos around centre gemstones. This style is worthy of a royal.
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, this trend has seen a resurgence in popularity. Although this is not a new look, choosing similarly sized diamonds for the setting is the most updated way to wear it.
This style, with two bands running parallel to each other and a gemstone separating them, is both dramatic and trendy. Your centre diamond will look like it’s suspended while it sparkles.
Minimalist Round Cuts
Simply breathtaking, this trend is very popular for the classic bride-to-be who wants a style that’s pretty and not over the top.

Coloured Engagement RIngs
If you’re considering something a little different, there’s always coloured diamonds. They range from canary yellow to pale pinks to blues. They are rare, beautiful and certainly scarce. You can also consider precious gemstones like sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. Sapphires are most known for their vivid blues, but also come in a magnificent array of colours from yellow, peach, green, and pink. Rubies will range the spectrum of rich scarlet to pinkish reds. Other precious gemstones to consider are aquamarine, morganite, and tourmalines. Want to know more about colour? There’s a lot to know.

Lab Grown Diamonds
What You Need to Know
Lab grown diamonds have generated plenty of interest and nearly as much confusion. They are known by many names including engineered diamonds, cultured diamonds, man-made diamonds, even evolved diamonds. But whatever you call them, the facts remain the same.
The Differences Between the Two.
A laboratory grown diamond has the same optical, chemical and physical properties as a natural diamond. It has the same chemical composition, refractive index, and 4Cs. To many, it is difficult to distinguish the difference. The biggest difference between a lab grown diamond and a mined diamond is how it originates. Lab grown diamonds are grown in a laboratory and natural, traditional diamonds are formed by natural processes under the earth’s mantle. Using advanced technology – either extreme pressure and heat or a special deposition process – lab diamonds are grown from the tiny carbon seeds of pre-existing diamonds. At Poag Jewellers, we feel it’s important to see a lab grown diamond side-by-side with a natural diamond and have our qualified gemologists show you those differences.
Lab Grown Diamonds Are Not “Simulated” Diamonds.
Simulated diamonds can be anything from Moissanite, to Cubic Zirconia (CZ), White Sapphire and similar materials, which do not have the same physical and optical properties as diamonds. Simulated diamonds are meant to resemble mined diamonds but they are not diamonds in any sense of the word.
How Are Diamonds Grown?
Lab grown diamonds are created or “grown” by recreating the same conditions that form mined diamonds but in a highly controlled laboratory instead of beneath the earth’s mantle.
